What’s Next at BeHeard Movement

At BeHeard Movement, innovation is at the core of what we do, and we’re always thinking of creative ways to better serve those experiencing homelessness. Here are some of the exciting projects we’re currently working on:

1. Safe Parking:

We understand that many families and individuals experiencing homelessness find refuge in their cars. However, parking in public spaces like store lots can create challenges for both them and local businesses. Our Safe Parking initiative aims to provide a secure location for them to park, complete with mobile shower, laundry, and bathroom facilities. Our staff will monitor this space, ensuring safety and engagement with this community, which has often been harder to reach due to its transient nature.

2. Shipping Container Transformation:

We’re in the process of converting two shipping containers into valuable spaces. These containers will serve as a computer lab, host group classes, and provide office space for resource providers. This expansion will enhance our capacity to offer critical services and resources.

3. ADA-Accessible Shower Trailer:

Recognizing the need for inclusivity, we are actively working to acquire an ADA-accessible shower trailer. Currently, none of our trailers are wheelchair accessible. This addition will create a safe and welcoming space for individuals with mobility challenges, ensuring they have equal access to our services.

4. Mobile Outreach Team:

In 2023, we concentrated our efforts in East Tulsa due to the scarcity of resources in that area. While we remain the primary shower provider, we receive numerous requests to extend our services to other parts of Tulsa and neighboring cities. To meet this demand, we are developing a Mobile Outreach Teamequipped with a third shower trailer. This mobile unit will enable us to provide services in underserved and requested areas, with the flexibility to be on the move three times a week.
